What is the Series About?

This series will introduce participants to the basics of 2D (graphics) and 4D (video film) digital media in a hands-on working computer studio designed for Art and Design Years 5-12. Practical applications of curriculum implementation will be covered through a ‘learn as you play' focus.

Day 1 - Getting Started will use a number of programs including: Microsoft Word, Photoshop and U-Lead Video. Digital video editing and production at an introductory level will be a main feature using both still and video digital cameras.

Day 2 - Pushing the Boundaries will cover more advanced image manipulation. Strategies and programs will be investigated in a ‘mini project' approach.

How Will the Series Be Presented?  


The workshops are hands-on in a fully equipped digital studio with projection unit and scanners. The series will be presented by practising Visual Arts and Design & Technology teachers.

Each participants will have their own computer and scanner for practical work.

Outcomes of the Series:

As a result of participating in day 1 of this series it is expected that teachers will gain basic skills in:

  • manipulating images via the computer;
  • capturing digital images in 2D and 4D;
  • file management and tips for survival.

As a result of participating in day 2 of this series it is expected that teachers will gain basic skills in:

  • manipulating images at an advanced level via the computer;
  • capturing digital images in both 2D and 4D;
  • file management& tips for maximising a working environment.

Target Group: Teachers of upper primary and secondary who are interested in exploring the basics of using the computer as an image manipulation tool.

Special Instructions: Day 1 - Participants should have basic generic computer skills such as mouse operation, program opening/closing, saving, menu bar, etc
Day 2 - Participants must have some experience with basic 2D and video image manipulation

Eligible teachers will be able to apply at the course for a $50 per course subsidy through the QTP (see calendar)

Cancellations should be in writing no later than one week prior to course to enable a refund.

Certification: Certificates will be made available to all participants who fulfil the course requirements.

Please note: AIS Professional Development courses can be accumulated to apply for University accreditation.
