Science in the New Millennium:
Stages 4/5 Teaching & Learning Strategies

What is the Course About?

This one day course is designed for teachers new to the Stage 4/5 syllabus, as well as those who wish to brush up on some aspects of teaching science to years 7-10.

There will be a range of speakers on the day, as well as the opportunity for practical experience. Topics to be covered include:

  • student centred learning
  • different learning styles and students with special needs
  • multiple intelligences
  • information technology and the sciences
  • assessment methods, including the use of portfolios
  • the science project

There will also be some small group discussion on proven effective tasks for these stages, so bring one of your own tasks for study.

How Will the Course Be Presented?  

A range of speakers will present ideas for participant discussion which will be followed by workshops aimed at identifying strategies for implementing ideas into classroom practice.

Outcomes of the Course:

As a result of participating in this course it is expected that teachers will gain:

  • a broader range of teaching and learning strategies for use in Stage 4/5 Science
  • confidence in implementing new or different assessment modes into the classroom.

Certification: Certificates will be made available to all participants who fulfil the course requirements.

Please note: AIS Professional Development courses can be accumulated to apply for University accreditation.
