AIS University Study Program 2000

The AIS University Study Program provides a very flexible approach to tertiary study, allowing for accreditation of a combination of AIS Professional Development courses, classroom research undertaken by teachers and courses offered by a number of universities at school venues and organised to meet the needs of teachers working in Independent Schools.

AIS Professional Development

A number of University Education Faculties have indicated their willingness to accredit AIS Professional Development courses to their post-graduate qualifications.

The principle by which this can take place is known as Recognition of Workplace Learning (RWL).

For example, at Sydney University it could involve a teacher collecting AIS Professional Development Certificates for courses totalling the equivalent of about one University course attendance i.e. about four days professional development. It could also include a variety of professional activities such as work with professional organisations, Board of Studies committees and conference presentations and papers. The university will then require the teacher to produce a portfolio which demonstrates how those courses have lead to professional growth over time. A charge of approximately $150 paid directly to the university would apply.

Teachers would also be able to structure an Independent Study and Report (ISR) as a second non-course unit. This would build significantly on the growing number of successful school-based action research projects undertaken in independent schools through grant programs administered by the AIS.

Extending Adventures in Art Professional Development

Opportunities now are in place for teachers who are enrolled or have completed the Adventures in Art series to extend their qualifications to include a Post graduate Certificate in Primary Art by completing the Day Two Courses and completing a learning module with two practical tasks.

The Day Two Adventures in Art will further extend teachers on the practical work covered in Day One.

Completion of the 8 professional development courses plus 4 learning modules with 2 practical tasks for each module will comprise the requirements towards a Post Graduate Certificate in Primary Art.

For further information on opportunities to combine professional development courses with learning modules offered at UTS please contact Anne Bamford at UTS, Kuring-gai campus by email anne.bamford@uts.edu.au or telephone 9514 5287.
