Collaboration Account Scenario

This diagram helps to show how flexible collaboration opportunities can be established with NextMail's Collaboration accounts.

In this example a remote student has established a collaboration session with the central school. The remote student may, for instance, choose to print a document on the school's printer. At the same time another remote student has used their collaboration account to also establish a collaboration session with the original student. The new remote student may, for instance, visit a web page that is located on the original student's notebook.

NextMail Upgrade

Migration Completed
StudentNet has completed the migration of all school email clients to NextMail, a move that will dramatically reduce the costs for schools to provide email services to staff and students.

Coming This Week
On Tuesday 20/1/9, StudentNet will deliver new NextMail administration and reporting capabilities, enabling school IT staff to directly control and monitor mail account usage within their NextMail environment. These new capabilities are the first stage in our effort to satisfy the feedback that we have received from you - our user community.

NextMail has written its own code for many of these functions, especially the reporting.  These functions are exclusive to NextMail users and are not available to direct users of Software as a Service (SaaS) email services.

The NextMail upgrade will include these new functions:

Direct Account Management:
 - Create/Delete/Suspend email accounts
 - Change passwords
 - Bulk account creation

Reporting:
 - Summary Report
Summarises total accounts, total usage, and total quota for the month
 - Accounts Summary
Details on usage, quota, last login, and account status for the previous day
 - Quota Limits Report
Information on accounts approaching their quota limit
 - Email Clients Report
Information on the total number of accounts accessed for a given day of the month, and how they were accessed
 - Activity Report
Information on how active accounts are for a given day of the month
 - Disk Space Report
Information on total storage used, and a breakdown of accounts categorised by usage

To login to Nextmail Admin console, click here.
An updated user manual is now available here.

In order to implement these new capabilities, we will need to take the NextMail administration system offline for a period of several hours on the morning of Tuesday, January 20, 2009. We apologise in advance for this inconvenience but are sure that you will like the results.

The sending and receiving of emails, and access to emails, will not be affected during this upgrade activity.

As always, if you have any questions, please free to contact us at StudentNet on (02) 9281 1626 or via email to support@studentnet.edu.au

The Acting Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Gavin Jennings, stated:
